Music Videos: Who,What,Where,Why And How

Music Video 1 - PSY - Gangnam Style

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0

The aim of this music video was for PSY to get well known across the world. Not just in South Korea as he is a K-Pop artist. Also Gangnam Style's music video would get people watching it and ask 'What have I just watched?' This then makes them want to watch it again and again. As they do this they then learn the song and start to think its a good song. Also during the song their is a dance that is easily imitate-able so then they start to dance along. Also because this is on YouTube they get money for each view they get on the video. So if you want to know the dance or just what is going on in the video then the average person has watched Gangnam Style back at least 3 times. This video alone has reached nearly 1.8 billion views. Because most of the song is in Korean ,apart from the chorus, no one really knows what the song actually means. This has then got him sponsor ship deals which have made PSY a very rich man. In the video it includes a lot of lip syncing to the songs lyrics as well as 'cut to the beat' editing. They show a lot of the dance they do which is what most people remember the song, and PSY, for. Also it has the same beat played throughout the entire song on a loop.

Music Video 2 - Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

The aim of this music video was for Miley Cyrus to show that she no longer 'belongs' to Disney and she is now a 'mature' adult. Another aim of this video was for people to talk about her. This worked as people speak about her a lot. People ask each other ' Did you see what Miley Cyrus did?' This went out on YouTube and has reached nearly 230 million video views. Miley lip syncs a lot of her lyrics in the music video. She also twerks during the music video which got a lot of people talking about the video with people even making their own twerking videos as well as Jimmy Kimmel who is a famous chat show host in America setting up a failed twerking video that went viral. This was set up by Jimmy Kimmel and he said the reason was to try stop people from twerking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSJMoH7tnvw). There is a digital animation in the music video at 1:20 of a white mask that nods and the mouth opens and closes. There are quite a lot of product placements throughout the video. The first being at 0:02 of the video where she turns up the volume on a Beats speaker. She also uses some eos lipstick at 0:29 in the music video. At 3:18 in the music video she is wearing a 'Dope' t-shirt.

Music Video 3 - Ylvis - The Fox

The aim of this video was to make a viral video. This has worked
as the video has 0ver 200 million views on Youtube. This has made
Ylvis become more popular. Which has ten got him a lot of money.
Also the lyrics are silly and the video is weird, this then makes
people show their friends which then gets more views and people
speak about it and say 'Hey have you heard that fox song?'. The
lyrics dont really make sense as he is singing about what noise
does a fox make. and then speaks about horses and morse code. He
has also gone on to get a publishing deal for a book that is titled
'What Does The Fox Say?'. The pair of singers are a comedy duo. And
They make parody or silly videos because that is what they enjoy.

There is next to none product placement as this was their first hit.
They had made previous videos but none were as famous as this one.

Music Video Production Journal

Music Video Production Journal

7/10/2013 - Day 1:

We started by roughly filling out a story board for our music video to Joe Brooks - Green Eyes and planning what each scene was. As well as the locations we were going to film at. Once we had this decided we then started filling out our risk assessments and also filling out our call sheets.

8/10/2013 - Day 2:

On the second day Max showed up who wasn't here the previous day. He made us delete everything we had done and restart. He also made us change the song to Blink 182 - I Miss You. So we started again with the storyboards and also finished the call sheets and risk assessments again.

14/10/2013 - Day 3:

Max and James didn't turn up so me and George finished up the rest of the documents and in the afternoon Max finally turned up and we got our actor and went filming for 3 hours. Because this was the only time we had in town with our actor we filmed all he clips we needed with our actor in them.

15/10/2013 - Day 4:

Everyone apart from James turned up and as soon as we got to college we went out to film establishing shots and other scenes we needed to use. We came back and I booked the camera and tripod to record on the weekend at my house.

19/10/2013 - Day 5:
I was working during the day so after me and my friend filmed some scenes in the garage and on my street for a couple of hours.
We filmed a lot of footage we didn't use because it was either shaky or didn't work.

11/11/2013 - Day 6:

Me and George turned up and we started editing. We nearly got it finished in the first session. We had a rough edit and just needed to tidy things up and lip synch etc.

12/11/2013 - Day 7:

Everyone apart from Max turned up and we continued with the editing. Getting a rough final piece. We just needed the last clip to finish it off.

18/11/2013 - Day 8:

We finished of the editing process and just needed to render it out. We rendered out and the file size was to big so we tried finding different settings. We also added some finishing touches to the video by adding an overlay at the start and at the end along with a 'in loving memory' end slate.

19/11/2013 - Day 9:

We found the right file size and rendered it out. We also uploaded it to Youtube.
